Gatien: In fact, the idea came to us in June, during the World Cup , Maxim was completing his albums with his brothers while listening to "Incroyaux" by Caba & JJ and the punchline " Plaire à tout l'monde, j'en ai RAF, je veux finir sur autocollant Panini, yes Sir " stuck in his head.
" Basically, it's like football, but instead of Dries Mertens, you're wearing a little Air Max. "
Can you explain the concept to me in a few seconds?
Maxim: Basically, it's like football, but instead of Dries Mertens, you hit a little Air Max. The goal of Colors Sneakers by Panini is really to offer another level of collection to sneakerheads. We will distribute the stickers in selected sneaker shops in Belgium, in Brussels, Namur, Liège and Antwerp. The stickers will include a selection of the best models of the year 2018.
Gatien : And they will be available on Kickstarter for pre-sale at a more advantageous price than in the shop.
" We are all responsible for this gentrification of sneakers, it's a game that the consumer wanted to play and personally, there will always be a place for a new pair in my wardrobe. "
And the one you would never wear in your life?
Gatien: Unanimously I think we can say that we would never wear a fake. Personally, the Adidas x Jeremy Scott or the Nike Uptempo are hot!
Maxim: Forget it, I love Uptempo too much.
David: New Balance, I never wear them.
I'm not telling you anything new, sneakers are in fashion. What do you think of this hype?
Gatien: Well, we are all a little responsible for this gentrification of sneakers, it is a game that the consumer wanted to play and personally, there will always be a place for a new pair in my wardrobe. I am neither for nor against, just happy that this passion is shared by a community that grows every day.
Making a Panini album is a bit like celebrating this culture of fast consumerism even more, isn't it?
Gatien: Not really. It's really based on the principle of collecting. I hope that in ten years, collectors will open their albums and be able to see the evolution of the sneakers game through the pages. Collecting, for me, brings together important values, like sharing, exchanging, caring, perseverance, meeting new people. Ultimately quite far from rapid consumption, right?
Currently, you are at four percent of the crowdfunding budget reached, there is still a big month left. How are you going to make it work?
David: We're going to find the missing 96 percent ( laughs ). This type of crowdfunding isn't really part of Belgian culture yet, but we've set the bar pretty high in order to gather as many opinions as possible and build up some enthusiasm around the project. It's going to be tough, but we have other solutions to launch the thing! None of the three of us have ever been driven by social networks, we fell into it with our COLOR SNEAKERS app . In truth, we're pretty bad.
Without wanting to be pessimistic, if it flops, what lesson will you take from it?
Gatien: The Belgians are so stingy!
Maxim: The idea was unanimously approved by everyone we spoke to about it, but between liking and participating financially, there is a click of difference, I admit...
David: I told you guys, if we had made a Panini on Belgian beers we would already have the sum by now!
We wish them good luck. If you want to support this great cause, click here.
